Where I firmly stand

My sincere hope is that if you know me in real life - or you’ve been tuned in to my business, my social media, or my advocacy locally, there’s not a question about what side of history I stand on. But if you’re new here - and welcome if you are - I thought it would be the perfect moment to clearly articulate what matters to me as a human being, because silence is violence.

What matters to me

This was one of the very first pages of website copy I wrote for my business back in 2024. And it was so easy to write because I mean it and try to embody it every day. Here's a screenshot:

That inclusion and acceptance piece means I’ll work with anyone who needs me, but you will find the most alignment with me, my philosophies, my approach, and even how I use my profits if you believe in the dignity of every human.

I don’t know that I could say it better than my mailbox flag does.

Terrible headlines remind me how everything I stand for is under attack - from the undoing of affirmative action and state-sponsored violence, the overturning of Roe v. Wade, RFK Jr’s misinformation on vaccines (and tylenol for goodness’ sake), worries about what cases the Supreme Court will hear that might impact marriage equality. And now a federalized, well-funded, ill-trained, illegitimate police force terrorizing immigrants and citizens alike, and even murdering people who use their privilege to get in the way of injustice.

Enough. It’s too much. Of all of it.

While I am deeply worried about the current trajectory of our country, I take comfort in knowing I am not alone - and I’m not even in the minority on many of these beliefs - and I am heartened seeing many people putting in the work to bend the arc of history toward justice.

This is my second mailbox flag like this, by the way. The first was tattered and faded and torn, which felt appropriate, given how my spirit felt after the 2024 election.

But then a wonderful like-minded neighbor gifted me a new one, reminding me we need to show up and stand firm for a long time to come. So I retired the first one and returned this flag to its full-form. Thank you, R. <3

So onward we march, protest, boycott, call our leaders, write letters, and donate. Onward to build more community, break more bread, embrace more joy, gift someone a fresh flag, and resist evil in all its forms.
