Focusing on gratitude

A wise proverb says “A grateful heart does good like medicine,” and emerging science tells us this may be both literally as well as metaphorically true.

Thus, as we prepare the feasts and gather with our people in the next week, I thought it would be the perfect time for me to pause and articulate my gratitude for this season of my life.

Laura’s November 2024 (Non-exhaustive) Gratitude List

We’ll start on the lighter side:

  • A well-placed GIF in a text thread.

  • Online grocery ordering. I recently forgot to submit an order and found myself in the aisles for way too long. No. Just no.

  • My growing collection of houseplants. I am so proud when I see a new leaf, a new offshoot, a new bloom.

  • A warm layer - blankets, sweaters, anything cozy. I am here for a snuggle and a rest.

  • An insulated cup. This girl stays hydrated, but can’t stand room temperature water. Ice cold is the way to go, which is probably why I need that warm layer. :)

  • Belly laughs, unexpected joy, and art (of any variety) that speaks to us and brings us joy and hope.

  • The Marco Polo app, which has fostered deeper friendships and allowed me to check in with folks when it’s convenient. Sending a personalized video message asychronously to let them know they’re on my mind, to vent, or to share a ridiculous story has accelerated and strengthened bonds in ways I didn’t expect.

And transitioning to the more serious:

  • A love-filled home, with a partner and children that know me, appreciate me, support me, and challenge me to be my best self.

  • A strong sense of community with friends who do everything from check in, send memes to brighten my day, invite me into their homes and stories, record podcasts with me, and ask to meet for lunch or go for a walk. I know that at a moment’s notice, folks would be there for me if I had need.

  • The public servants, helpers, leaders, and visionaries of this world who show up - even when it’s hard - to encourage, inspire, support, and provide care.

  • Health, strength, and a sense of efficacy - that I can and will create the future I wish to see - in my life, in my community, in my world.

  • A new business that provides opportunities to learn and grow, leverage my gifts, and invest my time in ways I choose.

  • Clients who trust me with what matters to them. I take my role seriously and am deeply honored by their faith in me.

All this to say…

As you take time to reflect on gratitude during the holidays, I truly hope that acknowledging your blessings brings you healing and strength to step into 2025 with confidence and hope. I am here to lighten your mental load and support you on the journey ahead.
